Strange potaoes ### MERKWÜRDIGE KARTOFFELN

There are many small farms and gardeners in Denmark and lots of them have a little shop on their farm. I will try and introduce some of them to you.

This one is Tårup frugt plantage, close to Stubbekøbing, Falster (54 43 32 15).

And when I come there, what do I find? Not only beautiful natural Christmas decorations, but also some rather strange potatoes in the box on the table in the back, next to the pears.

It appears, the potato is still asleep...

UND JETZT WACHT DIE KARTOFFEL AUF...

No, now he's awake, wondering why those stupid humans absolutely have to talk this loud, when he wants some peace...

Anyway, here are some lovely apples and real potatoes, nothing like the crap that they offer in the supermarkets...

And while I'm at it: here are two great apple orchards on Funen: Rosenhøj Frugtplantage - 64 61 34 20 (close to Bogense) and Farsbøllegård in Hårslev, close to Søndersø. And a third one: Hasmarkmosen 18, Otterup.

When you are in Denmark you should really try danish apples, because the quality is just sooo much better than apples from abroad. plus you should know that the laws are different within the european countries. so often what gets sold as ecological apples from the south can easily contain more pesticides than non-ecological apples from Denmark! that's because the law is so very strict in DK, as far as organic produce is concerned and this fires back nastily on those who are trying to produce a healthy and clean product. There are many farmers and owners of orchards which are in fact producing organic products, but who are not allowed to label them this way. so there's only one thing to do: taste your way forward. You can always taste what is real and what is faked!!!

Guest rooms ¤¤¤ GÄSTEZIMMER

We recently finished the renovations on two guest rooms, which had been quite a big job, since we put a new floor into one, painted the floor in the other and in another room we even insulated and put in a new outside-door... so we've been very, very busy!

WIR HABEN GERADE 2 GÄSTEZIMMER GRÜNDLICH RENOVIERT...

But before I show you more picture... Does anybody still know what a dust sheet is?

It used to be fairly common in Britain and the States, but these days i must say i'm quite in doubt if anybody is really still using these...

Anyway, above you see the dust sheet, it comes over the main matraze and the top matraze and is below the normal sheet on sleeps on.

This is the final result on one of the guest rooms. but I have to say the lighting sucks, it was late at night and I just wanted to have a picture in bright light, so people could see the fabrics. normally I don't think people would have the bright lights on, but rather a cozy smaller lamp...

Also I have to admit, all the furniture do still need painting... well i have painted them white alright, BUT they are in time gonna be decorated with some small delicate old-fashioned flower patterns. But this will take a while to do and in the mean time it also looks alright this way.

The chairs are also going to be turned into a work of art - will millions of tiny golden dots which will create beautiful flower patterns...

ACH JA UND DIE WEISSEN MÖBEL WERDEN AUCH NOCH VERZIEHRT WERDEN - MIT KLEINEN BLÜMCHENRANKEN!

This is the other guest room, on a daily bases used by my oldest son as an office/music/entertainment room.

Again the picture was taken in bright light and with a flash, but it's really so cozy at night, because we have all these beautiful small lights there...

So I usually find the boys here, having a cozy time, enjoying music or a film...

UND ABENDS SIEHT ES DANN SO AUS, WENN ALLES IN DAS GEMÜTLICHE lICHT VON KLEINEN lICHTQUELLEN GETAUCHT IST...

And here you can see what it looks like in the evening with small, cozy lights on... It's a very romantic and relaxing atmosphere...

I thought, I'd post a couple of pics of our farm, since we are spending so much of our time on the renovations. Above you see the kitchen; I'm sewing curtains.

One of the guestrooms. Note the new wooden floor. We are putting new floors into almost every room. Most of them pine wood (planks) like this fllor, but some also marble and granit. needless to say, it's a loot of work!

The latest addition: my little son finally put this door in. It was quite a job for him and he's neither a carpenter, nor an electrician and still he does all that so well. He build the frame from scratch and didn't only get a perfect fit, he also managed to make it in such a way, that it it secure in case of attempted burglary!

Vordingborg Festuge

Vordingborg is a town close to where we live and once a year they have this "week of celebration" with lots of concerts and as you can see lots and lots of people having fun together.

Since we had been in Hamburg as well, we only made it to the last concert.

But that's usually the one which is most special.

The fire works are always very spectacular


and the explosions are usually timed in such a way that it almost sounds like a symphony!


However having all that happening right over your heads, you have no choice but to lie down on the grass and enjoy it!

Midsummer-celebration¤¤¤SOMMERFEST

Last tuesday it finally was Sankt Hans - our midsummer-celebration here in Denmark!

LETZTEN DIENSTAG WAS HIER SANKT HANS - DAS MITTSOMMERFEST!


I had spent most of the day preparing food, which you can see here; I'm about to unpack lots and lots of different sallads, desserts, dressings and of course more sausages than we could eat for the barbecue!

This picture shows an old couple strolling along the beach, but I took it because it reminds me of one of Krøyer's paintings from Skagen-beach...

The were many, many people on that beach that night, it must have been thousands, but the beach is so long, that it still seemed quite relaxed and not crowded, even though there must have been a fire every 100 metres...

ICH HATTE UNHEIMLICH VIELE SALATE UND DESSERTS GEMACHT...


As you can see, it isn't really that hot here... I am wearing a very thick ski-vest under the arctic jacket and underneath that 3 other layers... still the water was nice and warm... - well everything is relative, isn't it?!

DANN ENDLICH WURDEN DIE GR. FEUER ENTZÜNDET!


These fires aren't all that small... and even though I am quite familiar with fire and do not mind touching flames etc. the heat that it was generating was enormous! You couldn't really get all too close, before you would get the feeling as if it was peeling off your skin... anyway, it was nice and warm on a chilly scandinavian summer's night!

They have now finally lit the bonfire behind us. But we're still not done cooking... and eating...

As you can see in the background, there are many more bonfires in the distance... in every direction!

After the barbecue and the songs that people sung by the fire - the spirit was really lovely, everybody was smiling and saying hello, people felt very close to each other and it was a very peaceful get-together, in spite of everybody being strangers...

Anyway... after having stuffed ourselves we hit the town - Marielyst by night!

there was nice life entertainment and I bought a BIG ice-cream for each of the guys... we've had a great night out!

Strawberries and summerpleasures - for car-fans I suppose... ¤¤¤ Erdbeeren und Sommerfreuden

The perfect way to spend the weekend: picking strawberries and a barbecue!


Yesterday evening we only just managed to make it to the strawbeery fields. It must have been almost 8 or so before we started...

JETZT IST WIEDER ERDBEEREN-ZEIT!

Luckily we're fast pickers. And so we were able to fit in the barbecue afterwards - really cozy in the twilight of the summer-garden!

GESTERN ABEND HABEN WIR NOCH SCHNELL EIN PAAR GEPFLÜCKT... und danach noch schnell in der Dämmerung gegrillt - so richtig gemuetlich!

Now why am I posting this here?!

ER ERINNERT MICH SEHR AN UNSER VORHERGEHENDES B&B, WO DIE REHE GANZ DICHT ANS HAUS KAMEN...

It's because it fits very well! we used to have a B&B on Funen (picture below)
and in the winter time all the deer would come very close to the house in order to eat the old apples from the ground or the chest nuts on the other side of the house.

I remember one Chistmas ... watching them through the blinds and they were maybe just two or three metres away. they couldn't hear any sound, but they did spot me through the almost close blinds. Interesting, isn't it?!
Would have to look through too many files to find pics of them, but here is one of the house an the fruitgarden in front of it which they just loved!


Anyway, no awards-post without passing them on, right?!
